Plant nutrients have low bioavailability
Nutrients from plants are harder to extract, absorb or utilize possibly causing a deficiency risk. Nutrients from animal are more absorbable, extract and utilize due to bioavailability. Extraction of as much nutrients is the goal of eating any food source whether it is plant based or animal based. There is less error with animal based eating due to its simplicity. Plants have a spectrum of chemicals but if a human knows how to extract the right combination of nutrients from any food source there should be a maintained balance of health. This is probably why seasonal eating played more of a factor in the past especially winter time where more fat is helpful to maintain D3.
Fat soluble vitamins
Most low fat diets with or without plants can causes fat soluble vitamin deficiency. Higher fat diets help eliminate most fat soluble vitamin deficiencies. Vitamin A, D and K2 as well as the famous DHA and EPA that support brain fat. The brain is composed of fat and does produce its own cholesterol. Nerves are coated with fat and fat surrounds most organs. The ideal fat is brown fat and the yellow fat is less helpful. Getting rid of refined processed fats is the secret to better health.
Vitamin A
Certain Plants have carotinoids which must be converted into retinol the form of Vitamin A our body uses quicker. Most animal fats have Vitamin A and is in the active form to be better utilized by the body.
Vitamin d
Certain plant foods has Vitamin D2 and need to be converted to the D3 that the body can utilize. Most animal fats contain D3 and does not need to be converted to be utilized in the body. The body can produce Vitamin D thru the skin with sun exposure and cholesterol in your skin. The UV is where the magic happens.
Vitamin K
Certain plants have Vitamin K1 but not the best form which is Vitamin K2 . Animal Vitamin K2 is the more bioavailable choice and is found in the darker meat choices.
B Vitamins
B Vitamins can be found in plant and animal foods. B12 can not come from plants but can come from animal food. B vitamins are always associated with brain and nerve health. B vitamins are water soluble and do not stay around as long. Constant stress on the body causes the body to utilize more b12 and folate. Low B12 can cause neuropsychiatric and hematological issues to occur. We recommend a score of 550 or higher. The best replacement B12 is the methylcobalamin form. The methyl donors are important as well as supplying the cobalamin.
Iodine
Some plants do not have iodine to support the need of the human body but some due like kelp. Most animal source food have a higher content of iodine than plants especially from the sea.
